About
My name is Marc and here’s what this blog has to offer:
- A perspective on marketing and media from a geek’s perspective. Sometimes this will mean an opinion on market research trends (I have five years of experience in the industry) and sometimes it will mean a fanboy pants wetting over the latest episode of Smallville.
- Wit and urbanity. I don’t have a clever explanation for this other than that I’m gay.
Tell me more, tell me more, like, did he have a car?
I earned a BA in International Affairs from GWU in 2003 and, deciding that IA wasn’t for me, I promptly took a job in the market research industry. In my first few years in the field I focused on communications and brand development, and, in the last year and a half, health care policy. In early 2009 I survived two rounds of layoffs but not a third.
Since being shown the door I’ve done some traveling, relocated from NYC to New Braunfels, TX, and spent a few weeks as a Starbucks barista. I’ve also been exploring my career interests, reading comic books, and learning about the future of marketing and research. I’m currently looking for work and considering a move to London.
My geeky passions (in no particular order) are Lost, Neil Gaiman, astrophysics, the X-Men, Joss Whedon, the future, linguistics, and gadgets.
As far as work goes, media analysis and audience research is what gets me excited, especially in this crazy world of social media and networking. To learn more about my work experience, please visit my LinkedIn profile.
